Tijdens de lezingenreeks vertellen professoren van UCR over hun eigen vakgebied in de Burgerzaal van het oude Stadhuis. Leer meer over bijvoorbeeld Immunologie, Psychologie, Militaire Geschiedenis, Robotica, Gaming en Politiek. Elke lezing is los te bezoeken, in het Nederlands en de toegang is gratis. Inloop vanaf 19:30 via de Voorhal van het Stadhuis (Markt 1) met koffie en thee. De lezingen starten om 20:00 en duren ongeveer een uur, waarna er nog enige tijd is voor napraten.
Prof. dr. Ger Rijkers trapt de lezingenreeks af, met een lezing in zijn vakgebied immunologie: ‘3 jaar in de greep van corona: een terug- en vooruitblik’. Begin januari 2020 kwamen uit China berichten over een nieuwe besmettelijke longontsteking. Iedereen weet wat er daarna gebeurde: lockdowns, afstand bewaren, overvolle IC’s en gelukkig binnen een jaar werkzame vaccins. De storm is inmiddels gaan liggen, maar niet helemaal over. Hebben we ons lesje geleerd en wat te doen voor de toekomst?

In 2024, University College Roosevelt celebrates its 20th anniversary. This anniversary year will be celebrated with various internal and external events, such as a lecture series and an open day for residents of Zeeland. On Wednesday, Feb. 28, the first lecture “3 years of corona: looking back and forward” with prof. dr. Ger Rijkers will take place.
During the lecture series, UCR professors talk about their respective fields in the Burgerzaal of the old Town Hall. Learn more about topics such as Immunology, Psychology, Military History, Robotics, Gaming and Politics. Each lecture can be attended separately and admission is free. All lectures are in Dutch. Doors of the old Town Hall (Markt 1) open at 19:30, and we will welcome guests with coffee and tea. The lectures start at 20:00 and last about an hour, after which there will be some time for discussion.

Everyone knows what happened next: lockdowns, keeping a distance, overcrowded ICUs and, fortunately, effective vaccines within a year. The storm has since subsided, but not quite over.
