Head of Communications Office

Description of the Position
We are looking for an experienced Head of the Communications Office, who has ample experience with communication processes in academic organizations. He or she will be managing a team of 6-7 employees. The team is responsible for processes regarding communication, marketing, student recruitment, and admissions. The Head oversees all departmental processes and shows leadership in the team.

In our small academic organization the managerial part of the position will have to be combined with a hands-on mentality in all the core processes. The Head will be the external media spokesperson of the college and in this capacity work closely together with UCR Board (the Managing Director and the Dean of UCR).
The new Head of Communications will be characterized by a clear and innovative view on communication and recruitment processes in our international academic organization. Within UCR, the new Head will be a discussion partner for the communications and recruitment team, for the UCR Board and for the different academic departments in the areas of communication, marketing, admissions and (student) recruitment. The new Head of Communications will be expected to provide strategic advice and can translate wishes and needs into concrete communication and marketing policies. The Head reports to the Managing Director and the Dean of UCR.

  • Has broad experience in communication, marketing and student recruitment in higher education

  • Has excellent organizational skills
  • Has well developed critical and analytic skills
  • Evaluative and decisive in decision-making
  • Has excellent communication skills both in written and spoken English and Dutch
  • Is an engaging public speaker
  • Is proactive, independent and a team player, with a problem solving attitude
  • Ability to deliver results against short deadlines i.e. perform under pressure

Conditions of Employment

UCR initially offers a contract for a year with the intention to extend this for an indefinite period of time. The intention is to offer a permanent employment contract. Employee will start preferably on the first of January 2020. A secondment (detachering) contract could be discussed as a possibility.

The employment contract is for 0.8fte – 1.0fte (32 – 40 hours per week).

Salary will be based on VSNU salary scales in the range from scale 11 to scale 12 based on knowledge and experience. Commuting expenses within the Netherlands will be partly reimbursed. Furthermore, UCR offers secondary benefits according to the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities, such as:

  • End of Year Bonus (8.3%)
  • Holiday allowance (8%)

  • Multiple choices model
  • Holiday leave hours of 232 per year based on full time employment

University College Roosevelt

UCR is one of the English taught International Honors Colleges of Utrecht University.
