About me

I am an associate professor in Art History. I have been at UCR since 2005, serving as Head of the Arts & Humanities department between 2012 and 2018 (two terms). My teaching is broad with a focus on Western art and the wider world. It includes courses on Italian Renaissance art, Dutch seventeenth-century painting, Modern and Contemporary art and the theories and methods of art history. My research interests focus on Italian art from the late Middle Ages. I have a special interest in questions of historiography, the artistic relations between late medieval Italy and Byzantium, and the reception of Italian painting in modern and contemporary art.
