Sophie Krier (LUX/B) is an artist and educator. Her research-based practice explores the peripheries of art and design through editorial projects. Initially trained in textile design at Design Academy Eindhoven, Krier now interweaves this approach with drawing, writing, video and community work. She lectures internationally, gives workshops at art and design schools on a regular basis, and has curated conferences on topics such as craft, industry, visual culture, materiality, ecology and urbanity. Between 2004 and 2009 Krier led the Bachelor course designLAB (Rietveld Academie, NL). In 2008, Krier initiated Field Essays, a research about the tactile world of thinking and making. Krier currently works from Paris in order to realize the third book of the Field Essays series. In 2015, University College Roosevelt (NL) appointed Sophie Krier artist-in-residence with the aim to develop an academic Art & Design Practice program. In short, Atelier Sophie Krier develops tools for collective narration and reflection.
