Within the Council, Prof. Oomen will advise on human rights within Dutch foreign policy. She will also become vice-chair of the specific Commission on Human Rights, which is one of the sub-commissions of the Advisory Council. Barbara Oomen is a professor in the Sociology of Human Rights at UCR/Utrecht University and has written many books and articles on the relevance of human rights to the main social challenges of our times. The work in the Advisory Council will take half a day per week, and prof. Prof. Oomen will continue teaching and doing research at UCR, bringing this experience and insights from the Council to the classroom.
