Several times in my time at University College Roosevelt have I heard someone say that one semester at UCR feels like a year in regular time. Honestly, it feels like a lot more. Especially in hindsight, I feel like a lifetime has passed since my first midnight adventure (that ended with us rescuing a cat from a tree!) with some new-found friends from my hallway.

Something that has really made me realize just how much I love the place was my going on exchange for one of my six semesters at UCR. I am actually writing this piece while sitting at a computer in Melbourne, Australia – all thanks to UCR. And the crazy thing is that although this is an awesome experience, I miss UCR like mad! It isn’t just my university, but it has really become my home. Though it may be a small place, UCR has everything you could possibly want spread around the beautiful Middelburg – and on top of that, the people are amazing.

It is that UCR community that I miss most of all. They get you through any troubles you run into; they inspire you to do great things in your university career while they do great things themselves; and whether things are rough or just really great, they are always there to have a good cup of tea (or beer!) with you. Having to give up half a year of that was a really hard decision for me to make, and I’m guessing that probably shows more than anything how fantastic UCR has been to me.

Admittedly, every system of education has its hiccups, but to me, the community of UCR has been that gulp of water that you drink upside down to shed them from your mind. If I had to choose a university all over and attend all my classes at UCR again, I would do it without a second thought. My years here have been the best ones of my life.
