 Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research presented at major political science conference

Since 2017, the Dutch government obliges certain groups of newcomers to sign a Participation Declaration – stating that they will respect Dutch laws and values. It is up to municipalities to decide how to prepare people for signing this highly politicized declaration. As part of her Capstone project, the final project that completes a UCR degree, Emma Leenders conducted research on this declaration. Recently, she presented the results at the ECPR, the main European Political Science conference.

Emma’s research forms one example of the many undergraduate research projects carried out at UCR, and supported by a special undergraduate research fund. In the past Summer, for instance, students also worked in hospitals, did research into the findings at an excavation at a monastery and found primary sources in the Archive of Zeeland.
