 Global Compact for Migration

The Global Compact for Migration, to be adopted in Marrakech on the 10th of December, has caused a great deal of political commotion in the past weeks. It led to surprisingly heated debates in Dutch parliament, nearly caused the fall of the Belgian government and was subject to a last-minute withdrawal from the US, followed by countries like Australia, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Italy.

Prof. Oomen, as a human rights lawyer, has been active in news and radio discussions on the merits of the compact. She will be attending the UN conference, and share insights with the UCR community directly after returning.
