 Jean Monnet Chair

Jean Monnet Chair for Herman Lelieveldt

Congratulation to dr. Herman Lelieveldt, associate professor of political science at University College Roosevelt, whom the European Commission has awarded a Jean Monnet Chair for the period 2018-2021.  A Jean Monnet Chair is a teaching post with a specialisation in European Union studies for university professors for a duration of three years. Chairs are appointed following a highly competitive procedure involving applications from all EU member states and beyond. Dr. Lelieveldt’s chair will focus on studying Food Governance in the European Union.

In addition to further developing teaching on the EU and food politics at UCR, the chair position will enable dr. Lelieveldt to prepare an academic, English edition of his 2016 monograph De Voedselparadox [The Food Paradox]. Lelieveldt will in addition organize several outreach activities such as a lecture series on the future of our food system as well as food sustainability workshops aimed at schoolchildren.

Herman Lelieveldt has been an associate professor of political science at UCR since 2006 and was a visiting scholar at the European University Institute in the academic year 2016-2017. He is the author of the EU textbook The Politics of the European Union (Cambridge UP, with Sebastiaan Princen) and the convenor of the Utrecht Summerschool on Food Politics in the EU (2016-2018).

Herman Lelieveldt’s webpage at UCR can be found here.
