 General Admissions Requirements

Applicants who have or who will have completed at least 6VWO (ASO), HBO/WO propedeuse, or the equivalent (e.g. International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, British A-levels, Abitur), are eligible to apply. Applicants who have completed their high school degree and have since gained university credit are also eligible to apply.

If you have any questions about eligibility based on the degree, please feel free to contact the Admissions Office at admissions@ucr.nl.

There are a few additional requirements for admissions at UCR:

All applicants must have taken English and Mathematics (Dutch: A through D are all admissable);

As UCR is an English-language institute, applicants are required to meet the language requirements below.

Please note: All Chinese students must apply for a “Nuffic Certificate” before their visa application can be submitted. This includes taking an IELTS or TOEFL test. For more information click here​.

English Proficiency Requirements

 
Since English is the official language at UCR, non-native speakers are required to demonstrate proof of proficiency. The following requirements are applicable:

VWO students (Dutch secondary education)

  • With an English grade 8 or higher, there’s no need to add additional proof of English proficiency
  • With an English grade below 8, applicants must ask their English teacher to complete the English Language Form. If your English teacher cannot provide you with a completed form testifying to your English proficiency, one of the tests indicated below will provide proof of English proficiency.
ABITUR students (German secondary education)
  • With an English grade 2 (10 points or more) or higher, there’s no need to add additional proof of English proficiency
  • With an English grade below 2 (9 points or less), applicants must ask their English teacher to complete the English Language Form. If your English teacher cannot provide you with a completed form testifying to your English proficiency, one of the tests indicated below will provide proof of English proficiency.
• For IB students and EB students (International Baccalaureate and European Baccalaureate) there’s no need to add additional proof of English proficiency
• For students with American education (AP levels) no further proof of English proficiency is required
• For native English speakers no further proof of English proficiency is required
• Chinese students must apply for a Nuffic certficate before their visa application can be submitted, which includes taking an IELTS or TOEFL test.
 
• If none of the situations illustrated above applies to you, an official test must be taken. See the table below. These tests will always be accepted by UCR as proof of English proficiency (provided that the minimum score was obtained).
