 SSC 275 - Principles of Private Law

Content  

The present course purports to provide students with an overview of the main features of private law in the (comparative) perspective of developments within the framework of the European Union. Attention will be paid in particular to contract law, although other areas will also be dealt with, such as family law, the law of succession, tort, property and business and corporate law.

 During this course the students:

  • gain insight in the fundamental mechanisms and general principles of private law;

  • develop the necessary knowledge about the (historical) background, the perspectives and the limitations of European private law;

  • develop the capability to discuss and write about relevant topics in private law.
