Maan Leo was amongst the first graduates of University College Roosevelt to come back to Middelburg and work for her Alma Mater. After graduating cum laude from UCR in 2007 with a major in Arts and Humanities, she was admitted to the Erasmus Mundus Master in Women’s and Gender studies. In August 2009 she completed this research M.A. with cum laude degrees from both Utrecht University (NL) and the University of Hull (UK).
Maan is Head of the UCR Recruitment and Communications Office. As such, she is responsible for the general communications and recruitment policy. More specifically, she works on UCR’s newsletters, press contacts, (social) media policy, website and intranet. In addition, she is the contact person for UCR’s alumni association Aurora and she co-organizes all official ceremonies and events.
Next to her work for UCR, Maan Leo is a published author. In June 2012, her debut novel Ik ben Maan was published by the publishing house Wereldbibliotheek. Ik ben Maan was awarded the Zeeuwse Boekenprijs 2012 and was longlisted for the Academica Literatuurprijs 2013. Her debut was reviewed favorably in such major Dutch-language newspapers as De Volkskrant, NRC Handelsblad, Het Parool and De Morgen. Maan's second novel, entitled Huwelijkse voorwaarden was published in November 2014 by the publishing house Lebowski. Maan also writes weekly columns for the newspaper Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant.
