 Karolien Walravens, M.A. (Senior Tutor)

Why I work at UCR: When looking back at my own college experience, I have the fondest memories of my time as an MA student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (USA). The small-scale interactive classes and the close contact with dedicated faculty there motivated me to push myself to excel and I therefore feel privileged to be able to help foster that same kind of stimulating learning environment at the University College Roosevelt, both as an instructor and as a tutor. As the latter position allows me to monitor students’ progress throughout their UCR careers, it provides me with an exciting opportunity to watch enterprising young people discover their own particular path in life.
What is interesting about my discipline? The English for Academic Purposes courses aim to provide students with the academic writing and presentation skills that they will rely upon throughout their time at UCR and beyond. Students are encouraged to look at the wealth of information that is available to them with critical eyes and to apply those same critical thinking skills to their own work.
